When paired with a compatible Cobra receiver, the MX-88 offers a system range of up to 1300' (400 m); it's an ideal solution for sending computer graphics video and HDTV signals over unshielded twisted pair (UTP) cabling such as a standard CAT5 (Ethernet network cable).

Aside from its rugged chassis, it features switch control from a choice of serial RS-232, RS-422 and RS-485 control ports via captive screw block connector and uni-directional RS-232 to 19.2k baud serial data transport. Its high-quality video transport circuitry supports RGBHV, RGsB, S-Video, Component, YUV, HDTV, Y/C, NTSC and PAL signals (model and configuration dependent).

Convenient front-panel controls feature Enter, Cancel, Store and Recall buttons; and its standalone compact design can be mounted in a standard 19" equipment rack by using the optional Cobra DM rack adapter.
