[Nurist] Sotetsu Nakamura
He specializes in making tea utensils as a ``model lacquerer,'' but until the Meiji period, he also made furniture with maki-e decoration. He also delivered the furniture for Emperor Go-Sakuramachi's enthronement.
Opportunity to become a painter

The Nakamura family was originally a family whose ancestors were samurai who were vassals of Toyotomi Hideyoshi. The Nakamura family moved away from the Osaka camp of Hideyoshi's conquest and moved to Kyoto City in search of a quieter life, but this led them to become a family of painters.
The neighbor's house was a painter called ``Kichimonjiya.'' The Yoshioka family, the Yoshimonji shop, had adopted Jinemon, the second son of the tea master Sen Sotan (Rikyu's grandson), and had close ties to the Sen family. In other words, Rikyu's great-grandson lived next door. Later, when Jinemon decided to return to the Senke family, he married his daughter to Sotetsu I (then Hachibei Nakamura), the family next door to him, and handed over his lacquer work and Yoshimonji shop.
The beginning of a new tradition

Among the successive Sotetsu Nakamuras, the third generation Sotetsu is said to be the most outstanding. He is credited with copying the molds from the tea utensils left behind by the beautiful giant Rikyu and creating patterns for the 12 utensils known as "Rikyu Kata." One of Tetsu's most famous works is undoubtedly the ``jujube'' (jujube).
Natsume is a type of tea utensil, and is a wooden lacquered container with a lid that is used to hold matcha (nowadays, it is sometimes also called a lacquered container that holds usukucha).
It is so called because its shape resembles a jujube plant. The shape, luster, and loveliness of that ``jujube'' shape, luster, and loveliness. There are more than 10 steps involved in creating the finished product. The base lacquer is applied over and over again on an elaborate wooden vessel called kiji, and the shape is carefully polished. Masu.
Finally, a top coat is applied to give the finished product, but there are several types of lacquer that are applied, and different types of lacquer are used to prevent deformation. The expression of a certain jujube has a ``shape'' and ``sophisticated elegance'' that remain unchanged even after hundreds of years.
The generations of Sotetsu have deep knowledge of haiku, calligraphy, painting, and poetry. The lacquer reflects both the technique and the vibrant spirit of elegance. The recent addition of women to the history of Sotetsu can be said to be the beginning of a new tradition.
