Another set of useful tools to enable extra tuition where necessary. Tests checking that last year's work has not been forgotten have been invaluable as a start to the new school year.

What’s in This Pack

Description

Your Year 7 child is meeting longer texts and tougher writing tasks, and this English pack covers the lot.

Two extracts from a play are provided for analysis, with questions asking pupils to identify comparisons
Pupils analyse two extracts from a play to identify character traits, then write a paragraph explaining how the reader's impression of Charles develops.

Year 7 English asks for closer reading and more careful writing, and these books follow the National Curriculum for the year. Your child works through comprehension, writing, spelling, punctuation and grammar, with Shakespeare in there too. A confident Year 6 child who is ahead can make a start on it early.

A reading passage about a band called The Ocean Drops, followed by questions to circle, write an answer and tick boxes
A news article about a band called The Ocean Drops, with questions to circle, write and tick boxes.

The weekly workouts give 36 short tests, one for each week of the school year. Each one opens with a warm-up question, then the questions get harder. In one, your child reads a news article and answers questions on it. The targeted workbook adds stacks of practice, with prior knowledge checks, extension activities and review sections. Answers sit at the back of each printed book, so your child can mark their own work.

Clear notes on fiction and non-fiction, with examples of genres and text types to help students understand the difference
Clear notes on fiction and non-fiction, with examples of genres and text types to help pupils understand the difference.

The KS3 English Study Book does the explaining, with clear notes on fiction, non-fiction and poetry, plus knowledge organiser pages that sum up each topic. QR codes lead to quizzes online. The targeted workbook then turns those notes into questions, and the weekly tests keep the skills fresh from autumn to summer. A Year 10 student can dip back into the study book to steady the basics.
