Vehicle Fitment

  • 1963–1967 Chevrolet Corvette C2 (Sting Ray — Coupe and Convertible, All Engines, without ESC)
  • 1968–1982 Chevrolet Corvette C3 (Stingray / Corvette — Coupe and Convertible, All Engines, without ESC)

Fitment Notes

  • Fits rear axle — Driver or Passenger Side (sold as a single unit; 2 required per vehicle).
  • Does NOT fit vehicles equipped with Electronic Shock Control (ESC / active suspension).
  • Designed for use with aftermarket lowering springs, composite rear leaf springs, or larger sway bars — shorter travel than B6 to suit modified suspension geometry.
  • For C3 Corvettes running a composite (mono-leaf) rear spring, the B8 is widely recommended by the Corvette community as a better match than the B6 due to its firmer valving controlling the spring's natural bounce characteristics.
  • Replaces old Bilstein part numbers: B46-0232 / F4-B46-0232-H1.

Features

  • Bilstein B8 Performance Plus — purpose-built for performance-modified suspensions with shortened design and firmer valving.
  • 46mm monotube gas-pressure design delivers consistent, fade-free damping with seamless heat dissipation.
  • Application-specific valving tuned for C2/C3 rear suspension geometry with modified or composite spring setups.
  • Well-suited for use with stiffer anti-sway bars, lowering springs, and other performance suspension upgrades.
  • T-bar lower mount design matches original C2/C3 rear shock mounting points — no modifications required.
  • Manufactured in Germany to thyssenkrupp Bilstein quality standards.
  • Backed by Bilstein's limited lifetime warranty against manufacturer defects.

Product Description

The Bilstein 24-184571 is a B8 Performance Plus rear shock absorber engineered for the 1963–1982 Chevrolet Corvette C2 and C3. With its shortened travel design and 46mm monotube gas-pressure construction, this shock is purpose-built for C2/C3 Corvettes running aftermarket lowering springs, composite mono-leaf rear springs, or upgraded anti-sway bars — setups where the factory B6-equivalent shocks can feel too soft or vague in rebound control.

The B8 is particularly popular among C3 owners who have switched to a composite rear leaf spring, where its firmer valving provides the extra body control that the single-leaf setup's lighter weight demands. This shock is sold as a single unit — two are required for a complete rear shock replacement. For C2/C3 Corvettes with stock steel multi-leaf springs at standard ride height, the B6 rear shock (24-184649) may be a better match. This part does not fit vehicles equipped with Electronic Shock Control (ESC).
