Coalport England Kingsware Canton (cream) 5 1/2" Fruit Bowl

Measurement: 5 1/2" diameter
No chips, cracks; minimal crazing.  Excellent condition for age.

From c1881-1921 all Coalport porcelain wares include a version of the Coalport Crown mark.  The mark appears in many variations.  On the fruit bowl being offered for sale, it appears with the word COALPORT above the Crown mark and ENGLAND A.D. 1750 below it.

Coalport was named as such because of the coal transferred from canal boats to river vessels in the Coalbrook Dale area.  The Coalport factory was founded by John Rose in 1795, and he continued to run it successfully until his death in 1841.  After a number of years of changing hands, Coalport was acquired by the Wedgewood Group in 1967.
