Antique Pair Of Steel & Bevel Glass Horse Carriage Driving Lamps
By
Howes & Burley Birmingham

This is a pair of steel carriage lamps, complete with 2 bevelled glass panes and a hinged door with red glass to access the burners.

The door has a pull-out brass clasp to keep them open when needed, as seen in picture 8.

The burners are embossed with the maker of the candles:
'Sanderson & Sons
Derby'

The coachbuilders, Sanderson & Holmes, were formed in 1923 by a merger of Sanderson & Sons of Midland Road, and Holmes & Co. of London Road, both in Derby.

Candles can be changed by unscrewing the spring-loaded handles, the inside of the handles are embossed with the lamp maker:
'Howes & Burley
Birmingham
Patent No 2070'

A great piece of history with tons of character.
