Darren was the boyfriend of Grace, he made his first apperance in 2010 , the Darren character is also older brother to Julian.  Darrens face mold is an updated version of both Jamal and Stevens face.Opened to mixed reviews.  Mattel launch the new line of black Barbie dolls with fuller lips, a wider nose and more pronounced cheek bones.  The dolls reflected varying skin tones, light brown, chocalate and caramel so little girls could see themselves within these dolls and let them know that black is beautiful.  Created by designer Stacey McBride-Irby, wanted to create a line of dolls for young black girls that looked like them

 

Many black women praised Mattel for its efforts  but some said the long straight hair didn't address the beauty issue that many black girls struggle with.  In the black community, long, straight hair is often considered more beautiful than the natural short kinky hair.   Due to controversy regarding the hairstyles of the new girl barbies and a So In Style hairstyling set this line didn't last.   Some thought that because it actively involved girls in the process of straightening the dolls hair, they worried that it reinforced the message that there was something wrong with natural hair.

The So In Style (SIS) was a line of Barbie dolls that was created by Stacey McBride-Irby.  They were first released in 2009 and discontinued in 2015.  Re-releaswed in late 2016 until late November 2017 and completely discontinued in mid December 2017.
