No need to keep disconnecting the Mic to program radio, This connects to the rear of the radio. 

To firmware update you will need to place the mic into the metal mic hanger or short out the rear of the mic clip to ground while holding the PTT as you turn on the radio. This will set the radio in firmware mode. Normal Radio programming not effected.
