Reckoning with Ourselves An Illustrated Guide to Understanding and Resolving Chronic Pain book
Reckoning with Ourselves is an illustrated meditation on the causes of chronic pain and it illuminates the many positive things we can do to change our condition and resolve our pain. This book explains the basic function of chronic pain from its physiological foundations, describes the effects on the body, offers solutions to the immediate pain problem, and gives concrete solutions to reverse the cause of this universal, human condition.

Reckoning with Ourselves describes that chronic pain isn't a physical malady at all, but rather simple normal, biological function that is somewhat out of control. Reckoning with Ourselves takes a different approach to describe why this condition exists at all and why it persists.

This book is printed in a format that is easy to read with a sturdy wire binding and written in a style that is both unique, and entertaining.

Sherri Obermark has written a helpful guide on how to overcome tension-based pain. As she explains: "Pain is ... a signal of a problem in the body."

What is the cause of tension-based pain?
What exactly does the body do when under stress?
How can you end the pain through relaxation?
How can you get more oxygen to your muscles?

In about an hour you will have many questions answered. I also loved that this book is large print. It was very easy to read. This book will be of interest if you have experienced back pain, neck pain, leg pain, joint pain, carpel tunnel or migraine headaches. Sherri Obermark teaches simple relaxation, breathing and meditation techniques that can be done by almost everyone.

One thing I must say that has helped my own pain issues is doing non religious yoga and stretching exercises. All too often we sit too much and don't exercise our muscles enough. This can lead to a lot of stiffness and discomfort all over the body. It can take about two weeks to feel real results but more movement is often a solution I've found that works.
