My Southern Friends, Edmund Kirke, 1863, Carleton Pub.

- 1st Edition (deduced).

- hdbk, 5.25  x 7.5 inches approx.; 308 pages followed by section advertising other current books.

- from internet: "A New York businessman forms close ties of friendship with several families in North Carolina in Jones and Craven counties.  They assist each other in solving personal and financial problems even though they have different points of view on slavery and other issues.  Slavery receives a lot of attention; corrupt masters, violent overseers, and miscegenation figure in the plot.  These tragedies in the book are based on episodes that the author knew of from his experiences as a director of a cotton trading and shipping company prior to the Civil War."

Condition:
Good Condition for this vintage text.  Cover shows at least moderate wear, but is now clean and tough.  a little age-darkening, but very little wear of any kind.  Hinge tape inside both boards.  Mild age-tanning to all pages...most notable around edges of page.  Hinges/binding are tight/strong.   Many little age spots and finger-oil type stains, but they are light and small, and not intrusive.  Outer page edges are browned.  No DJ.  Strong/robust book.  Very collectible.
