Some time ago I purchased a 1913 edition of "The Flying Islands of the Night" by James Whitcomb Riley, which was illustrated by Franklin Booth and published by Bobbs-Merrill. The book itself was fairly distressed, but the tipped in color prints were in great shape, along with the rice paper cover sheets. This prints cover sheet read: "Hist, ho! Ay, ay! Ay, ay! -- Her Majesty"
I spent a great deal of time doing the best I could to make sure the inside of the glass was spotless, and with the dust protector in place all the maintenance required should only consist of cleaning the exterior glass from time to time.
Most of the original prints in the book were roughly 5" x 7.5", this print having almost the full viewing area with the outer dimensions of the frame being 9.5" x 11 3/4". The outer mat is a light shade of brown and the inner mat a light cream, with both mats being beveled.
On the reverse of the picture, besides having a dust protector in place, I have placed a section of the original rice paper protection sheet which was in the book naming the plates (perhaps as an excerpt from the stories).
I have shipped quite a number of framed pieces under glass now and feel comfortable getting these to you in the same condition they leave me by taking extraordinary steps to make sure they are padded and protected.
