VW accelerator cables break - that's all there is to it. But - you can certainly lower the instance of it by only using the best cables being made - real GEMO ones! GEMO is the same manufacturer that VW used for all the cables when your Bus was new and their cables are still the best out there. They have four manufacturing facilities that they make these cables - two in Germany and two in Poland. Production moves around between these factories depending on capacity so the cable you get may be made in Germany or made in Poland but both are the same equally high quality. Why take chances with some cheapie Chinese that won't last (these are prone to the end pulling out of the crimped end of the cable) - go with GEMO for your VW!!

Installation Notes:
GEMO puts their part number on the cable on a red plastic sleeve. It's not important where this sleeve ends up being but can be used to protect the cable if it rubs somewhere on the run.
Many people incorrectly install the accelerator cable on their Bus. It does not use a bolt and washer or pin set-up to pivot on the accelerator lever. Instead, you are supposed to open up the round end of the cable to insert it into the hole in the lever and then close it back up. Be sure to put some grease where the cable attaches at the lever and every so often refresh this to minimize wear on the lever.
