familiarize yourself with growing conditions and instructions for your cuttings
before you plant them, as all cuttings are different. Basic growing
instructions can be found under listing, we recommend searching the internet
for more information. We Cannot Guarantee how much you will be able to grow, as
too many variables come into play, soil condition, the ability to garden,
weather etc. We guarantee that they arrive as described and are in good viable
condition and the planting/rooting rates are accurate. Because we are not there
to plant them, we cannot be responsible for rooting failure due to improper
planting or climate conditions. Please do your homework first. Most
people, following proper directions, should be able to root easily without much
trouble.
Planting Note: Our
planting instruction is a suggestion purpose only. Please choose the best
method of rooting that will work for you or research the internet for more info
and tips. We are not responsible for unsuccessful planting due to following our
planting instructions, because we are not there to plant them. We guaranteed to
send out good healthy cuttings
Basic Planting Instruction:
Upon receiving your cutting, you may choose how to root your cutting: In
Pot/Container or In Ground under shade or even in Water. Choose what works for
you.
Make sure the end of the cutting is dry and well
callous between 1 to 2 weeks from cutting the leaf. Start with a 4" pot
for 1 cutting or just use a 1-gallon pot if you don't plan to transplant.
Soil: Use well-draining soil blend mix, 50%
Miracle-Gro potting soil, 50% Cactus mix soil, 20% - 30% Perlite or You may use
soil method that will work for you to root the cutting.
Mix your soil.
Fill soil in the pot, dig a hole in soil 2” below, dip the cutting in root hormone,
insert the cutting cover back up with soil, water only when first planting the
cutting after that if the soil is dry mist water on the cutting only not the
soil to prevent rotten. Do not let the soil go bone dry it will damage the
plant. During the growing season, keep the plant in a warm area, partial sun,
or shade area, you should start to see new growth between 2-4 weeks then water
with slight fertilizer. Growing Season: March to October. The rooting process
needs a lot of heat/humid to develop roots.
Planting Cutting In-Ground: Not
recommended in a colder area. It can be done with the right climate such as
Spring, Summertime. We would recommend research the Internet for full details.
Select a good location with either partial sun or shade area
Rooting in Water: You
can also plant the cutting in a glass of water to encourage root growth. Place
your cutting in a jar of water, leave them in room-temperature water, changing
the water frequently, and maintain a little ambient humidity. Roots should
start to develop between 2 - 4 weeks, once roots developed you can transfer
into Pot or in Ground. Be careful of temperature shock.
WINTER: Rooting during winter
will take longer to root, sometimes no change on the cutting, but the cutting
is still green. Keep the plant indoors with sunlight through the window is best
or inside a greenhouse. (Select a warm area where it has enough heat/humidity
for root growth). From personal experience: WINTER is the best time to start
rooting the cuttings, keep them indoors and they will be ready for spring
planting. Be careful of the temperature shock when moving your plant.
Planting Instruction: Planting
Dragon Fruits Cuttings: Start Rooting in a 1-gallon pot for 1-4
cuttings.
Optional, deep the end of cuttings into rooting
hormone powder, insert cutting into a hole, cover back, press soil firmly.
Start root cuttings in a 1-Gallon pot with drainage holes.
Water only once when first planting, leave under shade during growing season
Spring to Summer, keep checking if the soil is too dry mist a little water,
don’t let it soak or don't let it go bone dry. You should see new growth
between 2-4 weeks. It will take up to four months to get a good strong root
system. Winter, start rooting process indoor by a sunny window or inside a
greenhouse. We recommend research the Internet for more detail
Plant Care
Information: Plant in well-draining soil with a support
stake or trellis and water when dry. Protect
from hard freezes. The dragon fruit cactus blooms
several times each year with huge fragrant blooms.
Halley’s Comet is self-pollinating, but since dragon fruit only flowers at
night, it’s usually pollinated by nocturnal creatures like moths and bats. A
simple hand-pollinating with an artist’s brush can ensure an even better fruit
set.
