Salvador Dali
Les Diners de Gala
Die Diners Mit Gala
With the Slipcase
Berlin, Propylaen, 1974. First German Edition. Hardcover. With the dust jacket. With the cardboard slipcase. Handsomely bound in heavy, roughly textured cloth printed with Dali’s gustatory art work on the front and rear boards. Illustrated with numerous color plates of Dali’s art and of Dali himself in the restaurant. Featured are exotic dishes, various courses, snails, frogs, shellfish, game, vegetables, aphrodisiacs and desserts. In the original, heavy, gilded colorful dust jacket with the striking images of Gala and lobsters on the front panel; and a gathering of naked women and lobsters on the rear panel. 55 recipes illustrated in color, 21 of which were prepared by the leaders of French gastronomy: Lasserre, La Tour d’Argent, Maxim’s and LeBuffet de la Gare de Lyon. Original German edition. Text in German. This is identical to the original French and English editions with the exception of the language.
Very good in a very good dust jacket in a good minus slipcase. Original decorative
cloth. Light wear and rubbing to the board corners and edges. Internally, clean, bright and tight. The dust jacket has light wear. Scratches visible in the light. Rubbing to the covers and corners. Little scuffing to the heel of the spine. Tiny abrasion to the DJ heel of the spine. Small tear to the lower right hand corner DJ front cover where it adjoins the DJ front flap. Few small creases. Minor soil spots. Not priced clipped. The slipcase is split along the spine and starting to split at the top. Inexpertly repaired with tape along the spine. Penciled in numbers on one side and Dali written in pencil along the spine. This can be erased with care.
A funny, odd, surreal and largely usable cookbook. Oasis
leek pie, calf's brains with bacon, Peacock a L'Imperiale, Beef rump with fish
roe and much more.
Original German edition with the scarce slipcase.
