Anthony Benjamin was a significant British Abstract artist and member of the St. Ives movement of artists in Cornwall. His contemporaries and collaborators included Peter Lanyon, Barbara Hepworth & Ben Nicholson to name a few. He was referred to as a 'polymathic artist' by critic Rosemary Simmons in The Times in 1979. He was also an influential and inspirational art teacher. Later he collaborated with a former student, musician Brian Eno, to develop a series of screenprints visually paralleling Eno’s electronics. His works feature prominently in significant British and International collections, including Tate Britain.

The work is a large abstract work on paper, completed in London in 1961, shortly after returning from an Italian painting scholarship. It was a period of rediscovery for Benjamin, where defined, flat shapes, shallow but articulate space and much more vibrant color informed his new paintings.
The artwork is in GOOD condition. There is a small tear in the paper, which has been tentatively repaired, and remains hard to see. It is hand-signed & dated by the artist and is housed in a tasteful black frame. The work can be removed from the frame for transport if requested.
