Unlike the barcodes or magnetic stripes. All operations between your card and the reader are done wirelessly using Radio Frequency signal.
In order to use it you do not have to even take out your card from the wallet because it is still transparent to RF signals.
It makes all operations faster and more convenient.
You could say what a great thing so what is the point?
Together with convenience comes also the RISK because thieves having special RFID reader (easy to buy on Ebay) or even mobile phone with NFC reader can read data (steal IDentity) stored inside your RFID chip without your knowledge (without touching). This means you can be a victim of the new electronic theft (also called electronic pickpocketing) and not be aware of it.
