This is from the APA Studio inventory of props and artifacts from advertising projects.

This is a mold for a bar of SAFEGUARD soap. Safeguard is an antibacterial soap of Procter & Gamble Company. It is a two piece mold made of a rubber latex intended for plaster casts I believe, but seems perfectly suitable if you wanted to make your own bars of soap!

The resulting bars of soap were used to produce a commercial for the product in the early eighties. In the 1960s and 1970s, Safeguard went by the informational-toned slogan of "A Soap For The Entire Family". However, their 1980s "The Smallest Soap in the House" ad campaign would be their most memorable. It included ads of people complaining thru excessive use of their Safeguard bars that they kept getting smaller and smaller. The ending of each commercial featuring a brand-new Safeguard bar in soap suds that, using stop-motion animation, shrinks down to about 80% used up just before the voice-over says "The smallest soap in the house". Stop motion animation was the specialty of APA Studios.

The mold measures 6” in diameter and 3 ¼” tall. It is two pieces, intended to pour into the top, the bar of soap appears to be full size at a little over 3” long and a little over 1” high.

An interesting artifact from the Madison Avenue Commercial industry.

Please see photos for condition and composition. The mold weighs a hefty 2 lbs. Message with any questions.
