Helen Levitt. Color Photographs. Grossmont College Gallery, 1980. Oblong quarto. Wrappers. First edition. Foreword by Roberta Hellman and Marvin Hoshino.

This scarce catalogue was produced in conjunction with an exhibition of Helen Levitt's color work in 1980. This catalogue is the first significant collection of the photographer's pioneering color work, much of which was stolen in a burglary ten years earlier. 23 color plates. Signed by Gene Kennedy the Director of the Grossmont College Gallery on the first free endpaper.

In the late seventies to early eighties, Grossmont College in El Cajon, California exhibited and published catalogues of three important American photographers in their campus art gallery. One of the three catalogues is the one on the work of Helen Levitt. What this catalogue lacks in its printing quality is made up for in the images. It is a good sampling of her elegant photography. Very rare catalogue on Helen Levitt.

Very good. Discoloration along the spine. Small stain to the back cover near the edge. Front cover corners curl up slightly. Brown spot to the inside back cover. Small stain to the bottom fore edge. Internally still quite nice. Tiny semi circular stain to the bottom edge of the first free endpaper, the acknowledgement page, the title page and the first two pages of text. The pages with images are unblemished. Prior owner stamp on first free endpaper. Clean, crisp and remarkably bright photographs. Tight binding. Hint of tanning to page edges.

Uncommon. Signed by the director of the gallery.
