36 mm MAGNETITE CRYSTAL “martite” FROM MUD TANKS ZIRCON FIELD, HARTS RANGE

This unusally large and near complete Magnetite crystal is from the Mud Tanks Zircon Field at Harts Range.

It is commonly referred to as “Martite” because it is pseudomorphing to Hematite, thus losing its magnetic property. This crystal is strongly magnetic, so must be only partially pseudomorphed.

I dug it in 1980.
