This antique mortise marking gauge is a traditional woodworking layout tool marked John Bruce. Mortise gauges were designed specifically for marking the two parallel lines needed to lay out mortises and tenons, making them important tools for traditional joinery.

The adjustable marking pins allowed craftsmen to establish consistent lines along the edge of a workpiece, helping produce accurately fitted mortise-and-tenon joints.

Overall in fair condition. Has a wedge to tighten which works but the end where the marker would go is split and there is no marker.
