DOCTOR DOLITTLE METAL LUNCHBOX from Aladdin Industries 1968. This embossed lunchbox is based on the 20th Century Fox movie starring Rex Harrison of the same name. Done as part of the rather large merchandising campaign surrounding the release of the 1967 Doctor Dolittle film. Unfortunately, the film was a flop, and much of the merchandise went unsold. Thus the rare R-5 rating. Another artistic masterpiece by AL art director Elmer Lehnhardt (who invented the “deep-relief 3-D embossing” featured on the main panels of this box), with his awesome use of color and characters showing the fantastic fantasy on display at the Blossom’s Circus. Front panel shows the good Doctor with the two-headed Pushme-pullyu and on the back with a giant snail. Definitely one of our personal all-time favorite movie-based boxes!
An investment grade example of the rare fantasy movie kit.
