Files, Does Not Cut |
|
Smooth Finish |
|
Dogs & Cats |
An electric nail file for pets. Instead of cutting through the nail, the grinding head takes the tip down a fraction at a time, so you can check as you go and stop whenever you like. It also leaves the edge smooth, so no sharp corner is left to catch on carpets, furniture or your arms.
Key Features
- Files instead of cutting – gradual and controllable, with none of the guesswork of a single snip
- Smooth finish – rounds the nail off, so nothing is left to snag on fabric or skin
- Cordless handheld design – no cable to wrap round a paw while you work
- Suits dogs and cats – from small breeds and kittens up to larger dogs
- Small and easy to store – lives in a grooming bag or a kitchen drawer
- Good for nervous pets – short sessions of one or two nails are easy with a file, awkward with clippers

Getting your pet used to it: Let them hear it running and sniff it for a few days before it touches a nail. Do one or two nails per session at first rather than all four paws, and reward them afterwards. Most pets take to a grinder well, but only if it is introduced slowly.
Using it safely: Grind a little at a time and stop before the quick – the pink area visible in pale nails, or the small pale oval that appears at the tip of dark nails as you get closer. Keep the head moving and do not rest it on one nail for more than a couple of seconds, as friction builds heat quickly. Keep long fur well clear of the rotating head – hold it back with your fingers, as it can catch and wrap. If you do nick the quick it will bleed; styptic powder stops it, and it is worth having some to hand before you start. Ask your vet or groomer to show you once if you are unsure.
