Vintage hand-painted Russian lacquer box illustrating the folk tale of "Nikita Kozhemyaka" — the legendary hero who battles a fire-breathing dragon to save a city, a story with roots in Kyivan Rus' folklore. The lid depicts a richly detailed narrative scene: the dragon in its cave, the hero preparing to strike, a crowned figure, and a walled city under a glowing sun/moon, all set against a black lacquer ground with hand-applied gold ornamental borders. Interior is lined in traditional red lacquer.

Artist-signed in gold script: "Испол. Климов М." (executed by M. Klimov). The subject itself is uncommon compared to the usual Firebird / Scarlet Flower / Golden Cockerel scenes seen on the market — this may be a harder-to-find title for collectors.
