Original WW2 Ministry of Food Personal Points Rationing “Rationing of Chocolate and Sweets” – 21 July 1942.
An excellent piece of British Home Front rationing ephemera, issued as Notes for the Guidance of Wholesalers and Retailers No. 3 immediately before chocolate and sweet rationing was introduced.
The leaflet states: “Rationing begins on Sunday, 26th July.”
It explains to shopkeepers and wholesalers exactly how the new system was to operate, including:
Personal Points coupons from ration books
The value of coupons
Point values for chocolate and sweets The initial allowance of 8 personal points
A maximum initial purchase allowance equivalent to half a pound
Instructions concerning supplies to members of HM Forces
Special arrangements for Royal Navy personnel
Deliveries to wholesalers and retailers
Administrative instructions for retailers and local Food Offices
Interestingly, the leaflet explains that children received the same initial sweet allowance as adults.
Dated 21st July 1942, only five days before the scheme commenced on 26 July.
The printer's reference also carries 7/42, confirming July 1942 production.
A particularly interesting original document relating directly to the introduction of wartime chocolate and confectionery rationing, and an excellent piece of WW2 Home Front, Ministry of Food and social-history ephemera.
Condition: Good overall for original wartime paper ephemera. Shows age toning, folding/creasing, marks and general handling/storage wear, with some edge wear.
Complete and clearly readable throughout.
