MILEAGE / ODOMETER HISTORY
We want to be completely transparent regarding the mileage.
The current odometer reads approximately 22,780 miles, however the historical records contain discrepancies which mean that we cannot warrant the displayed mileage as the car's true total mileage.
The historic records show the car at approximately 39,000 miles through the late 1980s, 1990s and early 2000s, followed by a number of anomalous readings, including a 57,296-mile entry in 2007 and subsequently much lower recorded figures.
The previous Trade Classics listing from 2021 also identified this discrepancy and described the car as having approximately 22,300 miles indicated, noting that it appeared the car had undergone a clock change at some point.
For this reason, we are advertising the car as 22,780 miles indicated rather than representing this as a verified total mileage.
The extensive history file will be available for inspection, allowing a prospective purchaser to examine the mileage history, invoices and MOT records in detail.
We believe this is the most honest and appropriate way to describe the car.
RARE UK MANUAL V12
This is a particularly desirable specification, being a UK manual V12 E-Type.
According to a Jaguar specialist, only approximately 855 UK manual V12 examples were produced, making this a considerably rarer specification than the more commonly encountered automatic cars.
The combination of the V12 engine and manual transmission gives the car a wonderfully engaging driving experience while retaining the effortless performance and character for which the Series 3 E-Type is renowned.
INCREDIBLE HISTORY FILE
One of the standout features of this E-Type is the sheer volume of documentation accompanying it.
There is a massive folder of historic receipts, invoices and supporting paperwork, with records stretching back as far as the 1970s.
The documentation covers everything from routine servicing and maintenance through to substantial restoration and mechanical work.
There is genuinely so much paperwork that it is almost impossible to go through everything in a single sitting.
For a serious prospective purchaser, however, this is a fantastic opportunity to sit down and properly explore the car's history.
We will include photographs of a selection of the documentation with the listing, including some of the more recent and substantial invoices.
DOCUMENTED RESTORATION & RESPRAY
The history file contains extensive documentation relating to previous restoration work, including a complete respray.
There is also a substantial collection of progress photographs showing the work being carried out, providing valuable supporting evidence of the restoration.
The previous restoration work included a bare-metal respray, replacement bonnet and substantial mechanical refurbishment, with the supporting paperwork and photographs retained within the history file.
For anyone considering an E-Type, being able to examine the photographic evidence alongside the invoices is a major advantage.
RECENT PREPARATION
As part of preparing the car for its next owner, we have just carried out:
• Engine oil and filter change
• Replacement spark plugs
The car will also be supplied with a fresh 12-month MOT, despite being MOT exempt due to its age.
We believe this is an important part of presenting the car correctly and means the next owner can enjoy it knowing that some important routine maintenance has just been taken care of.
EXTERIOR
The car is finished in Silver and presents extremely well.
It is fitted with classic chrome wire wheels, complemented by whitewall tyres, giving the car a particularly elegant and period-appropriate appearance.
The folding push-back sunroof is another desirable feature.
The combination of the long Series 3 bonnet, V12 engine and 2+2 configuration gives the car the unmistakable presence that makes the E-Type such an enduring British classic.
INTERIOR
The interior is finished in Black leather, providing a classic contrast to the Silver exterior.
The cabin retains the character and ambience expected of a Series 3 E-Type, with the traditional instrumentation, leather interior and manual gearbox creating a particularly appealing driver's environment.
FILM HISTORY – 'A BIRD FLEW IN'
Adding another fascinating chapter to the car's history, this E-Type was featured in the film A Bird Flew In.
A DVD copy of the film will be included with the car as part of the sale.
This provides the new owner with a unique piece of memorabilia and another interesting piece of provenance to accompany the already extensive history file.
For an enthusiast or collector, the opportunity to own an E-Type with a genuine film connection is a particularly unusual addition to its story.
PROVENANCE
The car has had just four owners from new.
The current owner acquired the E-Type in 2021, after which it has been predominantly stored and preserved, with only occasional use for special occasions.
The car has accumulated a substantial historic MOT record, alongside decades of invoices and receipts.
Together with the Jaguar Heritage Certificate, restoration documentation, photographs and film appearance, this is an E-Type with an unusually well-documented and interesting history.
JAGUAR HERITAGE CERTIFICATE
The car is accompanied by its Jaguar Heritage Certificate, providing additional supporting documentation for its identity and provenance.
The certificate will be included with the extensive history file.
MOT
Although this 1972 E-Type is now MOT exempt due to its age, we will supply the car with a fresh 12-month MOT.
This is being done to provide additional confidence to the next owner and demonstrate that the car is being offered ready to use.
WHY THIS E-TYPE?
There are plenty of E-Types available for sale.
Finding one with this combination of specification, provenance and documentation is considerably harder.
A Series 3 V12 2+2 Coupe, manual gearbox, four owners, Jaguar Heritage documentation and a history file containing records stretching back to the 1970s make this a particularly interesting car.
Add to that the documented restoration work, extensive progress photographs and the fact that the car was featured in A Bird Flew In, with a DVD copy included with the purchase, and this becomes a genuinely unusual proposition.
The mileage position is being fully disclosed, with the current 22,780 miles indicated clearly distinguished from a verified total mileage.
The car has also just received an engine oil and filter change and replacement spark plugs, and will be supplied with a fresh 12-month MOT.
We would encourage any serious buyer to come and spend time examining the extensive history file for themselves.
This isn't simply an E-Type being offered for sale.
It is a car with a story, an enormous amount of supporting documentation and a fascinating history that the next custodian can continue.
VIEWING & INSPECTION
Viewing is highly recommended and welcomed by appointment.
Given the age, value and history of the car, we actively encourage prospective buyers to come and inspect it properly.
The extensive history file will be available for inspection and serious prospective buyers are welcome to spend time going through the documentation.
Additional photographs, including further images of the restoration, invoices, MOT history and Heritage Certificate, can be provided upon request.
Any inspection is welcome.
