Selling two framed horse prints, "TROTTING CRACKS" AT HOME A MODEL STABLE and Pocahontas

Nathaniel Currier and James Ives

FYI: The three horses featured "in this modern stable" are Dexter, Peerless, and The Auburn Horse. Dexter was advertised as "The King of the Turf". In his great match against time on October 16, 1865, he trotted a mile under the saddle in the then unprecedented time of 2:18 1/5.

Race horses in stable. Picture shows boy grooming horse, another boy carrying reins to man, and man cleaning bits.

Other is the famous trotter "Pochontas" driven by James Mc Mann Esq.

Performing her wonderful feat of pacing a mile in the unprecedented time of 2 17 1/2.

"Currier and Ives prints were produced in two ways.  Painters could make preliminary watercolor sketches which where then copied onto the stone by craftsmen, or artists could draw directly on the stone.  Printing in the earliest Currier and Ives prints was in black and white, with color added by hand on each copy.  Later, with the invention of chromolithography, large areas were printed in separate overprintings of each color, while only tiny details of color were applied by hand."

These both say in corner Reprinted from lith by N Currier.

Both are in matching frames. Please ask any questions.

Thanks!
