Rare Unofficial WW1 Royal Scots Greys Silver "Hands Across the Sea" Medal

Up for sale is a highly collectible and scarce First World War commemorative medal issued unofficially by the famous Scottish cavalry regiment, the Royal Scots Greys (2nd Dragoons).

Unlike combat decorations, this beautiful piece was commissioned by the regiment during the Great War to honor the vital support system on the home front. It was presented to the wives, mothers, and female relatives who formed dedicated regimental networks to coordinate charitable aid, knit warm clothing, and ship comfort packages to the soldiers serving on the front lines.

Because these were privately commissioned by the regiment rather than the government, they bypassed official mints and were crafted in solid silver by a high-quality Scottish jeweller/silversmith. They were produced in very limited numbers exclusively for family members, making them an incredibly rare find today.
