This is a vintage S&E (Suzuki & Edwards Co. Ltd.) tin biplane
toy made in Japan. The toy features a unique design and showcases the
craftsmanship of the Suzuki & Edwards Co. Ltd. The friction
mechanism is in good working order but when you roll the plane on its
wheels the propeller is not spinning. I’m not sure what the issue;
perhaps you know how to fix it. The wingspan is approx. 14 1/4”,
propeller to tail is 11” and height to the top of the tailfin is approx.
3 1/2”. S&E (Suzuki & Edwards) Co. Ltd. of Japan was a notable
manufacturer of tin lithographed friction-powered vehicles and toys
during the post-war era, particularly in the 1950s and 1960s. Their
product line included several tin friction toy airplanes, often
featuring bright, detailed lithography.
