❓ What is an HSM and what is the Bull Trustway Proteccio PCA4H for?
An HSM (Hardware Security Module) is cryptographic equipment dedicated to the generation, secure storage and management of cryptographic keys. The Bull Trustway Proteccio PCA4H is used to secure PKI (public key infrastructures), banking transactions, qualified electronic signatures, high security VPN access and any application requiring a maximum level of trust for the protection of sensitive data.
❓ What is the difference between the EL, HR and XR model of the Trustway Proteccio?
The three ranges are distinguished by their cryptographic performance: the EL (Entry Level) model offers up to 100 Mbit/s in AES-256 and 40 RSA 2048 bit/s signatures; HR (High Range) goes up to 200 Mbit/s and 1000 sig/s; the XR (eXtended Range) reaches 300 Mbit/s and 4000 sig/s. All share the same EAL4+ certified architecture and ANSSI Reinforced Qualification.
❓ Is the device compatible with PKCS#11 standards and common applications?
Yes, the Trustway Proteccio PCA4H exposes a standard PKCS#11 API, compatible with the vast majority of PKI, electronic signature and strong authentication applications on the market. It integrates into the Linux and Windows ecosystems via libraries provided by Bull/Eviden. Note that software licenses and application configuration remain the responsibility of the buyer.
❓ How does the physical anti-intrusion protection of the box work?
The internal cryptographic module is protected by an opaque potting resin, in accordance with the FIPS 140-3 standard. Any attempt to open the case triggers an internal security alarm which automatically erases the stored cryptographic keys. This secret self-destruction mechanism guarantees the inviolability of the device even in the event of a direct physical attack on the HSM appliance.
