The Model

A 1:43 scale SMTS hand-built white-metal model of the Lotus Elan Plus 2, reference RL16, licensed by Group Lotus. Finished in metallic blue with the silver roof that identifies the Plus 2S 130. Chrome bumpers, side trim, black wheels with whitewall-effect tyres and Elan badging. Presented in the original SMTS Racing Line box with the illustrated lid and the printed information card. Made in England (Hastings).

The Real Car

Lotus introduced the Elan Plus 2 in 1967 as a longer, wider 2+2 for the family buyer who still wanted Elan handling. It used many Elan parts, including the Ford-based Twin-Cam, and even the Anglia-derived front bumpers. About 1,600 early Plus 2s were built before the Plus 2S; some 3,000 Plus 2S cars were completed between 1967 and 1969. The Plus 2S 130 used the 126 bhp “big valve” Twin-Cam and is identified by its silver roof, as on this model.
