This beautiful hand carved Coptic Orthodox cross was bought directly from the carver by a Peace Corps  volunteer in 1962 in Gondar, Ethiopia.  The carver was walking into town on his way to one of the historic churches in Gondar.  The cross is 26 inches tall.  The Amharic inscription carved into the cross approximately reads:   "Cherubim Seraphim and the watchful angels praise his cross".
