HEINDEL, MAX. Blavatsky and the Secret Doctrine. With a Short Biography of the Author. Introduction by Manly P. Hall. Los Angeles: Phoenix Press, 1933. First Edition.
Scarce first edition of Max Heindel’s esoteric study of Helena P. Blavatsky and her monumental Secret Doctrine, published posthumously by Phoenix Press in 1933. With a notable introduction by renowned occult philosopher Manly P. Hall, who describes Heindel as a Christian mystic paying homage to Blavatsky, the “Oriental occultist,” and emphasizes the spiritual common ground between Eastern and Western esoteric traditions.
The volume includes a photographic frontispiece portrait of Blavatsky, Hall’s introduction, a biography of Max Heindel, the five-chapter title essay, a collection of Heindel’s aphorisms, and an index. Bound in the publisher’s original dark blue cloth with gilt lettering to the front board and spine. An important early 20th-century work at the intersection of Theosophy, Rosicrucianism, mysticism, metaphysics, and Western occult philosophy.
Condition: Very Good. Original cloth remains attractive with bright gilt to the front board, some rubbing and light surface wear, modest wear at the corners and spine extremities, and slight discoloration to the cloth. Text-block edges toned with age. Internally clean and well preserved with general age toning and occasional minor spotting; no writing or highlighting observed. Hinges remain intact and binding sound. Lacking the uncommon dust jacket, as often encountered.
A scarce and collectible 1933 first edition, particularly desirable for its association with three major figures in modern esoteric thought: H. P. Blavatsky, Max Heindel, and Manly P. Hall.
