PROTOTYPE G.I. JOE STAR BRIGADE OZONE – VSP PAINT SAMPLE – SEALED – JERRY PALMER COLLECTION

Very rare G.I. Joe Star Brigade OZONE pre-production VSP (Vendor Supplied Product) paint sample, from the former collection of Hasbro/Kenner product Manager Jerry Palmer.

This example remains sealed in its original factory bag with its accessories and was supplied as a pre-production sample for evaluation.

What makes this particular example especially interesting is the manufacturer-applied paint touch-ups/corrections made during the evaluation process. The concept being that the factory in the orient wanted to send Hasbro the very best samples to get swift approval. Under normal lighting these corrections are extremely difficult (if not impossible) to see, but under UV light the areas fluoresce and become clearly visible, as shown in the photos.

The corrections are part of the figure’s original pre-production development history, showing actual hands-on work performed on the sample before final production. Pre- production figures are hard enough to obtain, the layer on the rarity of a touched-up paint sample… then make it one of the most sought after color variants of that release; and you have pure unobtainium.

A fantastic piece of G.I. Joe production history that demonstrates part of the process used to refine the finished retail of an extremely rare piece.
