LADY & BORZOI RUSSIAN WOLFHOUND

Description:
Attractive pair of Art Deco bookends, possibly of Central European
production, made of thick molded/pressed clear glass with frosted
details, circa 1930s.
Each bookend depicts an elegant kneeling female
figure wearing a long, stylized draped gown, embracing and playing with
a Borzoi (Russian Wolfhound). The elongated body and distinctive flowing
tail of the dog are beautifully integrated into the overall composition.
The linear treatment of the gown, elongated forms, and combination of
clear and frosted surfaces are characteristic of European Art Deco
design of the 1920s–1930s.
The pieces are unsigned and bear no
visible maker's marks.

Measures:
Dimensions of each bookend:
10.24" long ×
6.69" high × 1.97" deep
(26 × 17 × 5 cm)
Condition:
Good overall condition consistent with age and use.
One of
the Borzois shows a fine hairline in the tail area. It is
difficult to determine whether this is an old hairline or an
irregularity originating from the glass manufacturing process.
There is also a very small chip to one corner, as shown in the
photographs.
Some small internal bubbles and minor
irregularities are present in the glass, characteristic of the
molding/pressing manufacturing process and not unusual for glass
of this type and period.
