There was a time when a plain T-shirt like this wasn’t fashion—it was simply what you pulled from the drawer before heading out to the garage, mowing the yard, washing the car, or spending a long summer Saturday working with your hands. Decades later, all that ordinary life has left something you simply can’t manufacture. The cotton has worn incredibly thin and soft, the original white has drifted into a wonderfully uneven off-white with an almost pale blue-gray cast, and the fabric has developed that translucent, broken-in appearance found on truly old everyday clothing.
This unbranded size Medium crewneck survives with plenty of evidence of its former life. There is age discoloration and uneven fading throughout, scattered marks and staining, along with a prominent worn-through hole near the underarm/side and other general age-related wear. It isn’t pristine, and that’s precisely the appeal. Whether worn under an old denim jacket, paired with beat-up jeans, used for styling, or added to a collection of early American basics, this is an honest old shirt with the kind of softness, fading and patina that takes decades to earn.
