There are certain pieces of clothing that immediately put you back in a particular moment in American history, and an original Vietnam-era jungle jacket is one of them. Made under a 1968 military contract, this lightweight camouflage tropical combat coat comes from the period when American servicemen were operating in the heat, rain and dense vegetation of Southeast Asia. Its faded greens and browns, ripstop-style grid texture, slanted chest pockets and four-pocket field design are unmistakably tied to the Vietnam era—not a modern reproduction trying to recreate the look, but a garment that has had more than half a century to acquire it naturally.
The original labels remain inside, identifying the coat as “Coat, Man’s, Camouflage Cotton Wind Resistant Poplin Class 2,” manufactured by Henderson Mfg. Co., Inc. under contract DSA 100-68-C-2551. Size is marked Small Regular, intended for a 33–37 inch chest and 67–71 inch height. It shows genuine age, fading, wear and character throughout, so please study the photographs carefully for condition. Whether displayed alongside Vietnam War militaria or worn as a wonderfully weathered piece of vintage military clothing, this is one of those surviving garments where the wear is part of what makes it compelling—the kind of jacket that carries the look and feel of its era in every faded panel and softened seam.
