An incredibly scarce, historically significant volume for collectors of theology, bibliography, and antiquarian books. This is Volume I (English) of the monumental "Historical Catalogue of the Printed Editions of Holy Scripture in the Library of the British and Foreign Bible Society," compiled by T.H. Darlow and H.F. Moule, published in London in 1903.
RARITY AND ASSOCIATION FEATURES: Limited Edition and Signed: Out of a strict printing of only 500 total copies, this is an unnumbered "Presentation Copy" from the select pool of 50 not meant for general sale. Dual Signatures: Features the crisp, live original ink signatures of both compilers, T.H. Darlow and H.F. Moule, on the limitation page. Provenance and Association Interest: Features the original library bookplate of the Woodbrooke Library (Woodbrooke Settlement, Selly Oak, Birmingham). Crucially, it features a handwritten inscription at the base of the bookplate: "Presented by Dr. Rendel Harris" (James Rendel Harris, the celebrated biblical scholar, manuscript finder, and Woodbrooke's first director).
CONDITION REPORT:Please review the listing photographs carefully as they form a vital part of the description.
Binding / Exterior: POOR / FAULTED. The front and back black buckram boards are loose from the text block. The spine shows heavy wear, tearing, and loss to the cloth. This copy is an ideal candidate for professional re-binding or restoration.
Interior / Text Block: VERY GOOD. In stark contrast to the exterior, the internal text block is clean, crisp, and securely bound. The pages display minimal age-toning or foxing, with the black and red typography remaining exceptionally vibrant. The critical limitation page, signatures, and title pages are fully intact and well-preserved. The top of the pages are gilt edged.
