Vicars served with the 97th Regiment of Foot and was killed during the Crimean War in 1855.


Written by Catherine Marsh, the book recounts Vicars’ military career, correspondence and deeply held Christian faith. Vicars subsequently became celebrated in Victorian Britain as an example of the courageous “Christian Soldier”.
