BUCK’S STATEMENT:

Maybe it was a young couple from Wisconsin or Illinois who packed up the car in the summer of ’62 — thermos full of coffee, road map folded on the dash — headed west to see the marvel of the future at the Seattle World’s Fair. They walked the fairgrounds hand in hand, wide-eyed at the Space Needle and the promise of what was to come, and picked up these globe salt and pepper shakers as a souvenir of that big adventure. Back home, they sat proudly on the kitchen table of a tidy Midwestern home — the same table where morning toast met percolator coffee and talk of the fair lingered for years.

Sixty years later, they’ve resurfaced, still gleaming with that same quiet optimism. The clear lucite globes catch the light just right, the golden bases worn smooth from years of gentle use. You can almost hear the hum of a summer fan, the crackle of a radio playing in the next room, and feel the heart of the Midwest — humble, hopeful, and full of wonder — beating through every bit of brass and plastic. A small, shining reminder that the future once fit right in the palm of your hand.
