BUCK’S STATEMENT:

Before highways stretched across America and before work boots came shrink-wrapped on big box shelves, companies like Ball-Band earned their reputation the hard way — outfitting farmers, hunters, laborers, mail carriers, and families facing long northern winters one sturdy pair at a time. This original 1916 Ball-Band footwear pamphlet feels like stepping directly into that world. The cover artwork alone captures an era when illustrated advertising was still considered an art form, with rich colors, sporting scenes, winter imagery, and the unmistakable Red Ball trademark that became iconic across the Midwest. Even better, this example carries a local retailer imprint from Cohen Bros. of Waupaca, Wisconsin, giving it a fantastic regional connection and authentic period character.

Inside, the booklet reads almost like a time capsule from working-class America during the First World War era — showcasing rubber boots, arctics, overshoes, hunting footwear, and practical advice for extending the life of your rubbers during harsh winters. The graphics, typography, and product illustrations are absolutely loaded with display appeal. Pieces like this rarely survive because they were meant to be temporary advertising ephemera, not collectibles. An exceptional piece for antique advertising collectors, vintage fashion historians, footwear collectors, Wisconsin memorabilia enthusiasts, or anyone drawn to early 20th century Americana.
