Traditional English-made chisel with a forged cast steel blade, brass ferrule and original hardwood handle.
The maker’s stamp is worn but still shows WARD, together with the CAST STEEL marking, identifying it as a Ward & Payne Sheffield tool.
The cutting edge measures approximately 6 mm (¼ inch).
The chisel remains in original, unrestored condition and shows the expected signs of workshop use, including:
* Surface oxidation and age-related patina * Edge is free of chips and plenty of life * Marks and staining to the wooden handle * General cosmetic wear consistent with age
The handle and ferrule remain firmly fitted.
This would make an excellent addition to a collection of vintage Sheffield woodworking tools or a usable tool for a cabinetmaker or woodcarver.
Please study the photographs carefully, as they form part of the description.
