Original antique divided-back postcard mailed from Nittany, Centre County, Pennsylvania, with a strong and easily readable NITTANY, PA. circular postmark dated February 11.
The Nittany post office operated from 1827 until 1936, making this an attractive example from a discontinued Pennsylvania post office.
The card is addressed to:
Mrs. J. J. Fisher
Warriorsmark, Pennsylvania
The front features an attractive embossed “Best Wishes” design with yellow/orange roses, pale blue ribbon accents, pink panels, and ornamental detailing.
What makes this one more interesting is Nittany itself. The Centre County Historical Society describes the tiny village as a stop on the Central Railroad of Pennsylvania, which connected Centre County with Clinton County and the New York Central Railroad. Much of village activity centered around Peck's Inn and Store.
