Muddy Creek Forks History

Muddy Creek Forks was much more than simply the name of a post office. The small York County community developed around milling and later became an important rural stop on the railroad. The arrival of the Peach Bottom Railway in 1874 transformed the community, and the line eventually became part of the Maryland & Pennsylvania Railroad—the famous “Ma & Pa.”

The village's most prosperous period was approximately 1888–1935, when railroad, agricultural and commercial activity flourished. Remarkably, much of the historic village survives today, including the general store, post office, roller mill, grain elevator, creamery and circa-1900 railroad station.

That gives the cancel a particularly nice connection to an identifiable historic railroad community rather than simply an obscure vanished post office.
