The Wood Carving Sculpture "Old Man of the Woods" Knot-head is a hand-carved Forest Spirit sculpture crafted by artist Charlie Blackburn in 1993. Charlie lived in Trinity County, CA. His work was shown and sold at Wildlife West Gallery in Redding, CA in the 1980's and the Highland Art Center in Weaverville, CA in the 1990's. This medium-sized sculpture is made of Old Growth Fir wood which Charlie found out in the Wood of Trinity County himself. He was very particular about which tree knots he would pick and use. This carving features a folk art style, depicting the subject of a Forest spirit or Old man of the woods, which Charlie named this one "Pappy". Charlie roamed the Forests himself looking for just the right Fir Knots to Carve into his Forest Spirit Men. Signed by the artist, and dated: 1987, this one-of-a-kind piece is a unique representation of American folk art of the Far Northern section of Northern California. This sculpture is a special addition to any Folk Art collection.
This Wood Carving is in very good Vintage Condition. No Breaks, Scratches or missing pieces. There are "Natural" cracks in the wood which is representative of this type of wood sculpture.
