New old stock locomotive with original box, instructions and handrails. Locomotive has been tested and has a drivetrain defect. It runs, but binds/locks when operated in reverse. Please read the complete description and review all photos before purchasing.

Athearn HO scale Southern Pacific DD40 diesel locomotive, road number 9503.

This is a very clean new old stock locomotive that appears to have seen little, if any, use. Original instructions are included, and the handrails remain uninstalled.

PLEASE READ — MECHANICAL REPAIR NEEDED

The locomotive has been tested. The motor runs and the locomotive will operate in one direction. When operated in reverse, the drivetrain binds and locks.

Inspection shows a broken rear bearing/support area in the drive assembly. The brass bearing/bushing no longer has proper support, allowing the drivetrain to move out of alignment and bind when running in reverse.

This locomotive will require repair before normal bidirectional operation.
