Scarce Cultural Revolution-era bilingual edition of Mao’s celebrated “Little Red Book,” presenting the text in parallel Chinese and English. Published by Dongfanghong Publishing House in Beijing, with the colophon explicitly stating “First Edition, August 1967” and “First Beijing Printing, August 1967,” and bearing unified book number 1017·213. Bound in the iconic flexible red vinyl covers, lettered and decorated in gilt in both Chinese and English, with Mao’s portrait frontispiece.

An especially desirable variant distinct from the much more commonly encountered Foreign Languages Press English-language editions. Produced at the height of China’s Cultural Revolution, Quotations from Chairman Mao Tse-Tung became one of the most widely distributed and recognizable political books of the twentieth century and remains an important artifact of modern Chinese history, propaganda, and revolutionary publishing.

Condition is very good overall, with expected age and handling wear. Red vinyl remains bright with some creasing, wrinkling and minor edge wear; gilt lettering remains attractive. Some light toning/soiling and minor marks internally, including faint red transfer to the endpaper. Binding remains intact and text generally clean.
