Unusual 1921 real photo postcard (RPPC) depicting “The Angel” on San Jacinto Mountain in Southern California.
The very faded photographic image is captioned in the negative:
“ANGEL SAN JACINTO MTN.”
The card was mailed from Banning, California, with a clearly readable circular postmark dated:
MAY 23, 1921 — 10 A.M.
The reverse contains an extensive handwritten message and is addressed to a recipient in Bowling Green, Ohio.
The “Angel” on Mt. San Jacinto became a recognized regional scenic subject and appears on later California postcards as well. Surviving reproductions identify the subject specifically as “The Angel on Mt. San Jacinto.”
An interesting early Southern California mountain RPPC with a desirable Banning, California postal cancel and a dated 1921 usage.

Poor to fair antique condition, but still collectible as an identifiable and dated California RPPC. Photograph is very heavily faded, with considerable loss of image contrast. Significant overall surface wear, staining/soiling, creasing and age toning. Stamp area is heavily damaged with the stamp largely or completely missing. Writing covers much of the reverse. Corners and edges show substantial wear. The Banning, California May 23, 1921 postmark remains quite readable. Please examine both photographs carefully for exact condition.
