Original 1947 postcard from Tel Aviv during the British Mandate period in Palestine, showing London Square and Yarkon Street near the Mediterranean waterfront.
The photograph is captioned “TEL-AVIV – London Square and Yarkon St.” in English, with additional Hebrew and Arabic lettering. The image provides an excellent view of mid-20th-century Tel Aviv, including the landscaped square, surrounding buildings, automobiles, pedestrians, and the Mediterranean coastline.
The reverse is particularly interesting. It bears the publisher imprint:
“COPYRIGHT AND MADE BY ‘PALPHOT’, HERZELIYA PALESTINE”
along with Hebrew lettering.
The card was written from Tel Aviv, Palestine, June 23, 1947, during the final period of the British Mandate for Palestine (1920–1948). The writer mentions arriving from Egypt and plans to travel around Palestine before returning home.
The card retains two original Palestine postage stamps and postal cancellation and was addressed to the United States.
A particularly appealing piece for collectors of British Mandate Palestine postal history, Tel Aviv, Holy Land postcards, Judaica, Middle Eastern history, and Palestine philately.
Vintage posted condition with expected age and handling wear. Writing appears on the reverse and extends into portions of the address area. Two original Palestine postage stamps remain attached with postal cancellation. Minor edge/corner wear and age toning are visible. Please examine photographs carefully for exact condition.
