A historic bond, dated 1901"the same year Carnegie divested his company"represents a remarkable $100,000 5% United States Steel Gold Bond issued to Andrew Carnegie, not signed. The scarcity of any Carnegie stocks and bonds is well acknowledged; previously, two signed Andrew Carnegie examples of this bond were sold to collectors for $125,000 each. The bond is meticulously stamped and hole-cancelled. Extremely Historic! Andrew Carnegie(1835-1919) was a prominent manufacturer and philanthropist. He began his distinguished career as a bobbin boy at the age of 13 and later became a self-taught telegrapher for the Pennsylvania Railroad. Between 1853 and 1865, Carnegie played a pivotal role in introducing Pullman sleeping cars, organized the military telegraph department, and was actively involved in the transportation of troops during the Civil War. After leaving the railroad, Carnegie shifted his focus to the iron and steel industries. His strategy of "putting all his eggs in one basket and then watching the basket" proved remarkably effective. By 1889, the United States led the world in steel production, and in 1901, Carnegie sold his company, the Carnegie Company, to the U.S. Steel Corporation for $250 million. The Carnegie Foundation of New York has contributed millions to scientific research, educational advancement, the promotion of international peace, and the recognition of heroic deeds. The foundation is particularly noted for establishing public libraries. Item ordered may not be exact piece shown. All original and authentic.
