Totally soft, totally comfortable… and totally made from recycled materials, right the way down to the plant-based inks and paper packaging we use! Our triple packs of SOCKSHOP TORE 100% Recycled Cotton Dash Patterned Socks — and in fact, the entire TORE range — is 100% produced using eco-friendly fibres and processes, including non-harmful dyes. Each pack of TORE socks starts their life as waste products (2.4 water bottles and 0.6 t-shirts to be exact) and ends in soft, comfortable legwear. Furthermore, creating these socks lets us save two years worth of drinking water, and actively reduces landfill.

Eco-credentials aside, these crew length, cotton blend ladies’ socks are just great quality, ideal as your everyday sock choices! In attractive designs, and woven to be lightweight, fine gauge casual styles, TORE socks are comfortable, smooth, soft and breathable, exactly as they should be. That these incredible socks help the planet too? That’s a dream, and one we’re happy to be making a reality!

TORE

About TORE

Launched in 2021, TORE (TOtally REcycled) was created out of frustration towards the industry and also ourselves – our aim is to debunk the myth that fashion needs to be dirty. We have strived to develop the world’s first 100% recycled sock, creating a sock that tackles the industry problem of excess textile wastage and water consumption.

Designed in the UK by our close-knit team, we pushed ourselves to make a sock that was even better in quality than our current production lines. The main challenge we encountered was sourcing recycled materials that retained the same quality and features as the original but we think we cracked it.

Our Mission - Why Should We Care?

Reduce Water Consumption

Fashion is a thirsty business; fashion is the third largest user of water globally after paper and oil.

Lack of Drinking Water

Over 750 million people in the world do not have access to drinking water. The industry currently uses enough water to quench the thirst of 110 million people for an entire year.

Desertification

12 million hectares of land are lost every year to desertification, which has been described as the world's worst climate issue. Cotton needs A LOT of water to be produced and this ultimately leads to desertification. One example is the desertification of the Aral Sea, where cotton production has entirely drained the water.

Reduce Waste Accumulation

As fast fashion grows, clothing has become more disposable. A staggering 10,000 items of clothing are being sent to landfill every five minutes

Breakdown of waste system

Many of the disposed clothes are not being reused or recycled but being swamped. This leads to the formal waste system being at breaking point.

Polluting

These clothes are mostly not degradable. Synthetic fibres are used in 72% of our clothing and these plastic fibres can take up to 200 years to decompose. As it rains, the microfibres used can leak into the land and sea making it environmentally toxic.

Our Values

  • To be completely Transparent
  • To contribute to a positive environmental impact
  • To act ethically
  • To provide high quality goods

Green Economy

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

When we created TORE we pledged to take a holistic approach in terms of sustainability.

Following the zero-waste hierarchy, we want to reduce the use of raw materials and continuously reuse and recycle items for the production of all different kinds of new products.

Once a sock reaches the end of its life, we ask you to take the sensible approach and first reuse it for a different purpose and then recycle it at your local recycling centre. Your sock may end up as wall insulation or padding for car seats instead of going to a landfill!

Reuse, Recycle Tips

  • A sock puppet to keep the little ones entertained
  • A dust cloth for a good spring clean
  • Teddy bear stuffing for the arts and craft enthusiasts
  • A dog toy for your furry best friend
  • Recycle at your local recycling centre
  • Recycle by donating them to a registered charity
  • Recycle by donating to a charity collection service that collects clothing directly from your door
